You Were Born to Front

Some funky-fresh "freestyling" from MC Frontalot (freestyling in quotes because I could pick out segments from a few of his songs in there; not certain if any of it was actually on-the-spot, but I shall give him the benefit of the doubt because he is a Hero) and a little bit of an interview on the end.

It's fun to see him in action. Someday I will see him live.

The World and A Cappella

Two sweet links:

1. Dokaka, a Japanese a cappella singer, has some free cover songs up on his site.
Mostly death metal, for some reason (Slayer, Cannibal Corpse). Dokaka's been on the Katamari (2?) soundtrack, as well as Bjork's Medulla album.

2. The Onion, America's most reputable news outlet, has teamed up with Google Maps/Google Earth to create an online version of Our Dumb World (updated weekly!).

Also, I finally unlocked every achievement in Sim City Societies, so I suppose I can start doing useful things now.

The Mouth Will Rise Again

Alright, so a new semester has begun. Haven't been updating very regularly (obviously), as I decided to enjoy my last vacation for who-knows-how-long.

Enjoy it I did.

I have a bunch of cool things to show you, plus a lot of new projects to start on (and eventually share). I'm taking a character design course this semester, an independent study in Flash (for which I will be learning Flash and Actionscript 3.0 from the ground up, and recording my progress), and my final photography portfolio (for which I will be extending my "One Thousand Pardons" series/working technique and maybe even having a show).

In the meantime, here are some notable links I found over break:

Lasagna Cat - a series of tongue-in-cheek video tributes to Jim Davis, creator of Garfield. Each one is comprised of a live-action recreation of a Garfield strip, followed by a music video tribute.
My favorites: the Final Fantasy VI Medley (for the geeky in-jokes), the Jurassic Park theme (which is basically a reel of critics' quotes regarding the Garfield movies), and Suicide is Painless (I do not even know how to react to that tribute video; it is quite a thing).

There are some gameplay videos out for the upcoming Penny Arcade game (If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't bother. If you do, well, hey- it's got some interesting-looking "active-turn-based" combat, spiffy art, and clever writing, so... might be good).

Someone made a Weighted Companion Cube case mod: Weighted Companion PC (with a how-to!).

Speaking of which, here's Game-Set-Watch's Top Ten "Still Alive" Cover Versions (I'm a big fan of the player piano).

Oh yeah, and here's a dude that modded a Nerf Longshot together with a toy chainsaw to recreate a Gears of War weapon:

I am fascinated by both fake weaponry and self-modding, so I ended up reading the whole step-by-step.

My Tiny Life..., a classic book about a man's travels through the seedy underbelly of an MMO, is available for free download on Lulu. Interesting.

What else have I been up to? Reading a lot of Christopher Moore (if you like Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, and/or David Sedaris, you'll probably like him too), playing some TF2, Gish, and DoD (the latter two have sales going on on Steam), drawing, and preparing myself for life after college.

Hello, World.

I am a part of you again!

So, a new year is upon us. That's dandy enough. I had a kickin' New Year's Eve shindig, complete with Madd Snaxx (yes, I am poor, but fuck if a dude can't have a little caviar on the first day of the year- New Year's is like the pace-car for the other days, and as such, should be treated with respect and a sort of controlled decadence, I believe).

Anyhow.

I've been doing a whole lot of nothing important lately, just crackin' open some new games (Final Fantasy XII, which came in totally under my radar and made Final Fantasy games as amusing as their artwork is incredible again; Hellgate: London, which is Diablo 2 except that you can have techno-armor and fucking robots, with lasers; and, last but not least, The Orange Box- Portal is everything I've ever dreamed of, as you well know, but there are also three more Half Life games to plow through, plus Team Fortress 2, which I will most likely be getting a Facebook clan together for. I basically have too many damn games to play).

I've also been playing around with a couple of side projects, which I'm sure will get posted somewhere sometime.

Today, I decided to get off my ass (figuratively, that is; I went on the Internet) and research candidates for the looming election. Now that it is 2008, the time has come to pick a horse.
In that spirit, I found a bunch of political candidate-pickin' quizzes and took them all. Turns out I am a Dennis Kucinich supporter (who knew?). I learned all about the issues I did not understand with the assistance of helpful links provided by the quizzes.

Here are all of the quizzes. I suggest taking them all in turn, as though I ended up with a result of Kucinich for each, the percentages and margins between candidates varied wildly between quizzes. Plus, we want to safeguard against any Internet hijinks, do we not?
Multiple sources, people.

Quiz 1 (Asks for a little demographic information, but you don't need to give it to take the quiz)

Quiz 2 (Lets you assign "points" to indicate issue importance. Also the only quiz that mentions pot.)

Quiz 3 (Apparently, this site is somehow militarily-affiliated. Didn't seem to skew the results, though.)

Quiz 4 (Another quiz! Just to be safe.)

So. Yes. That was fun. Um... deaf porn?
